Senior Terry Johnson finalist in Dr Seuss Scholarship "Oh the Places You'll Go".

Dr. Lisa Tyndall works with 8th graders .

As a part of our US advisory program, with its emphasis on character development, Dr. Lisa Tyndall, a past employee of The Oakwood School and current Family Therapy Clinic Director in the College of Human Ecology at ECU, spoke to our 8th graders on handling peer-to-peer frustrations and interpersonal skills.

The Oakwood School/Chengdu Experimental Languages School exchange program students arrive.

Twelve Oakwood families have welcomed the thirteen Chengdu students (six girls and seven boys) into their homes for the next two weeks.  There is a whole slate of activities for the Chinese and Oakwood students during this time.  Oakwood students will go to China on their exchange later in February.

Academic Accolades
Congrats to Devon Shusterman, Matthew Cahill, Trevor Fu and Jacob Siegel for their awards with the American Math Competition 8 and to Eric Mossman, Louis Bailey and Rebecca Rodriguez for honors in the Shakespeare Competition; Brian Schroeder named UNC Morehead-Cain scholarship semi-finalist. Also, Brian Schroeder and Jon Schwartz have been named National Merit Scholarship Semifinalists. Swimming:  Kelly Oglesby, Carly Conway, Casey Sokolovic, Ian Warren, Jon Schwartz, Kyndall Oakley and Ellie Cahill have all qualified for state cut times! Next Meet 1/23.  In basketball, MS boys beat Epiphany 42-34 on 1/20; JV girls lost to PJP II 25-39 1/18; Varsity girls beat FCS 64-32 on 1/17; JV boys beat PJP II 32-29 on 1/18; Varsity Boys beat Epiphany 60-37 on 1/20. Check out the article in The Daily Reflector about some of our basketball student athletes. http://www.reflector.com/sports/oakwood-players-drawing-attention-825795 Way to go to our cross country runners at the State NCISAA Cross Country State Meet. Among the 54 women in Division 1A in Charlotte,Casey Sokolovic finished in 4th place with a time of 21:26 and Bethany Garrison finished 9th with a time of 22:03. Based on their top ten finishes, Casey and Bethany were awarded All-State medals. The next wow goes to the Varsity Volleyball team for being runner-up in the State NCISAA tournament. Seeded #4 out of a field of 16, our lady Eagles came so close to taking the whole thing with Caroline Collier being named to the all state team. Well done also to Nic Engels and Luke Warren for making Soccer All Conference Honorable Mention and Erin Tucci for being named Tennis All Conference Honorable Mention.
